If you are a driven and ambitious individual, you may not have given a second thought to why that is. If you are not driven and ambitious individual, you may have looked at those who are and wondered how they do it. Is it a case of being born with drive and ambition or are there other factors at play?
Here’s Why Some People Are More Driven and Ambitious Than Others
There are a number of reasons as to why some people are more driven and ambitious than others. A lot of people link drive and ambition to birth order, explaining that where you rank in the family could have a significant impact. The youngest child in a family often has more drive and ambition because from a young age they have felt as though they are in competition with their older siblings.

However, that’s not to say that it’s the case for everyone. There are of course youngest siblings who are less ambitious, simply because they see beating their siblings as an impossible task. This is an argument to suggest that we are born – or where in the family we are born – with drive and ambition but it’s not the only reason as to why some people are more driven than others.
“Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you drive in.”
Bill Bradley
A similar thing happens in friendships, especially if one friend feels as though they are in competition with another. Competing friends are often likely to go above and beyond to succeed, which requires a great deal of drive and ambition.
For example, some friends may work harder in the hope of achieving better grades than their friends at school. Though this isn’t a case of someone being born with drive and ambition, it does show that the environment we are in can affect how driven and ambitious we are.
How driven and ambitious someone is can also be linked to insecurity, with those with low self esteem often being more driven and more ambitious. This is because they feel as though they need to be better and do better, to prove themselves and reach their goals.
The need to prove themselves and show others what they are capable is not only seen in those who are insecure, but those who worry about being seen as unmotivated or behind by their peers.
Sometimes, that’s enough to boost drive and encourage hard work.
